Preschool Social

Today was Gallie's first "pretend" day of school.  We went to the open house to see her teachers (she'll be in the same room with the same teachers as she was last year, which is nice) and play with some of her new classmates.  Gallie is a very shy girl, but I think she's excited about it.  Towards the end she started to warm up and by the time we hit the playground there was no going back!  She was so excited about the things she couldn't do last year, but now that she's 4 1/2, she can do... like jumping up and grabbing the bar and hanging!  A small goal that means so much :)

She was pretty proud of this accomplishment too :)

Last night for our anniversary Caleb made dinner, including the steak I got him.  Gallie surprised us with this pretty flower and sweet cupcake, which we all shared after dinner.  She made the table centerpiece arrangement all by herself - so proud of her for taking after me!

The chef.

The sous chef, trying to add sugar to everything on our plates!

The dinner.  Notice my steak cut into strips so it will be completely charred and have absolutely not a smidgen of pink!  Delish.

Our Anniversary

Today is our 8 year anniversary.  We decided to put a $10 limit on our gifts this year... although I did cheat and get Caleb a new pair of sunglasses a couple weeks ago.  But for today, his gift was a NY steak that I'm making him for dinner tonight.  We never have steak so he will enjoy it :)

Here are some of the big things that have happened in our family in the last 8 years:

August 30, 2003 - Wedding Day!

Year 1 - Honeymoon in Lake Tahoe.  Move to Bellingham (tiny one bedroom apartment).  Attend WWU.  I get a job in the financial aid office at WWU.
Year 2 - Second honeymoon in Hawaii.  Caleb graduates with an English degree.  We buy our condo in Bellingham.  Caleb films first feature film.  Caleb works at a moving company.  I continue school and continue working at WWU.
Year 3 - I graduate with an Accounting Degree.  I get a job at Anvil Corporation.  Caleb continues to work at moving company and work on film projects.
Year 4 - A baby girl, Callie Mae Young, is born!  Caleb films his second feature.  Caleb goes back to WWU for teaching.
Year 5 - Callie turns 1.  Caleb continues school.  I go back to work full time.
Year 6 - Callie turns 2.  Caleb films his third feature.  Caleb starts student teaching at Squallicum High School.
Year 7 - Callie turns 3.  Caleb graduates with a Masters in Education.  Caleb gets a job at Hand Crank Films.  I work part time in the summer.
Year 8 - Callie starts preschool at Assumption Catholic School.  Callie turns 4!  Caleb and I turn 30!  First trip to Disneyland.  Caleb travels to Africa and India.  I work part time in the summer.

Happy Anniversary Caleb!  I know this next year will be the happiest so far.  I love you!

(I will try to get a wedding picture on this post in the next couple days!)

The rest of the weekend...

So glad to be home with Gallie today!!!  We decided to go to the park for lunch and to meet up with Libby and Lily so the girls could play.

I've been trying out RED lipstick lately - looks kinda weird on me, but I kinda like it.  You can see me coming a mile away - haha.  Gallie calls it Ruby Red, and believe me, if she was allowed to leave the house in it she would be wearing it right along with me!

And I better warn you - watch out for this guy next time you're at the park.

Unfortunately, later in the afternoon Gallie came down with a fever and soar throat just all of a sudden.  I have no idea where it came from, but I'm hoping it doesn't stick around long.  Poor sickies!  She finally felt well enough to eat something - a banana roll-up.  This is her very own recipe and she'll be sharing soon!

Babysitter of the year?

Gallie thinks so!

Portland

On Friday Caleb and I made a quick trip to Portland to do a little shopping and see some old friends.  We decided not to take Gallie because we were only going to be gone about 36 hours and 12 would be spent in the car.  She decided that she would rather spend the night with Grammy and then spend the next day with Cody and the new kitten, Rainbow (formerly known as Princess Tiger Lily).

We left pretty early Friday morning, so we were able to spend most of the afternoon walking around downtown and exploring.

Caught trying to check his work email on a day off!

 Shhhh... Forever 21 stop :)

That evening we met up with one of my really good friends from high school, Brandon.  We realized we haven't seen each other for almost 5 years - time flies.  We had dinner at a really cool Thai restaurant, Pok Pok - it was good.  Spicy, but good.

Our friend Patrick also joined us - he's in Portland for the summer rehearsing for a play.

The main reason we went to Portland was so I could attend Crystal's (my best friend from high school) babyshower.  We haven't seen each other for about two years, but again, it never seems like it.  Crystal is due in October and I can't wait to find out if it's a girl or boy!

The shower was really fun - it was put on by Crystal's sister and she did an amazing job.  She hand made all of the food, deserts, decorations, and favors - I have a couple pictures below, but you can see more on her blog.

It was a pretty eventful trip - we had fun but we're sure glad to be home with our cute, little Gallie :)

Callie Mae... Swift?

As I've mentioned before, Gallie is very fond of Taylor Swift.  She really loves singing and wants to learn guitar.  I think maybe next year she'll be ready for Caleb to start teaching her.  Anyway, we think these pictures will make great album covers :)

The rest of the weekend...

On Sunday we went out to have a picnic to celebrate my mom's birthday.  We spent most of the day outside, which was nice.  Everyone brought a salad and my grandma brought chicken... and Libby brought a homemade German Chocolate cake!  Happy birthday again, mom!!!  I can't believe you're already 29!!!  (and that I'm older than you now!  haha)

The three amigos!

The kitten on Lily's shirt looked exactly like Cody's new kitten!  Which was there today and we couldn't drag the girls away from it!

I can't believe there are only two more weeks of summer left!  Next weekend we have a trip to Portland and then Labor Day and then school starts!  Since we've only gotten a handful of "hot" days, I could really use another month :)  But on the brighter side, only two more weeks until I switch to part time!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!

Mom, I hope you have a really really great b-day!  And hope you have an even better time at your party tomorrow!  You're the best!

Kitty Fever and Date Night

Today Gallie got to go to Cody's house to play with his new kitten - now she wants one more than ever!  Cody is letting Gallie and Lily name her, and so far Gallie's best pick is "Lily Mae."  We stayed for about an hour and Gal was very upset to leave but luckily she will get to play with her again tomorrow :)

Last night we had a date night at my friend Whitney's wedding - it was a beautiful night and we ate good food!  We were suppose to go out afterwords, but we are getting to old for that (30!!!) so we went home and watched a movie :)

We also had a date night last Wednesday!  Gallie went on a ferry adventure for the day with Libby, Lily, my mom and some of their friends.  They ended up coming home later than expected so we went to dinner at my favorite restaurant.  We hardly ever go out alone, so it was quite the coincidence that is happened twice in two weeks!
