A hard fall...

Gallie took quite a tumble Friday night on the blacktop - darned flip flops!  It was quite traumatic for her to see the blood on her knees and she wouldn't even look at it.  She cried (shrieked!) for about 3 hours straight, even after we gave her Tylenol.  She also cried for about 2 hours the next morning saying that she couldn't walk or put her legs straight - even though she slept with them straight all night :)  I was very consoling to her the first 1/2 hour, but I feel like I was a bit mean (more like stern) the rest of the time.  I know it probably hurt pretty bad, but I'm trying to toughen her up a bit - last week she broke out in tears over a paper cut :)

I also was a bit "mean" during dinner last night when she wouldn't even try the chicken pot pie I slaved over all afternoon.  Caleb wanted to send her to bed without anything (she did eat all of her cottage cheese and peaches), but I just couldn't do it and gave her a bowl of cereal.  Then to top it off - I was doing the dishes and Caleb was doing some work stuff when we heard crying.  Gallie was sitting in her closet with the door closed sobbing.  When we asked her what was wrong she said everyone was ignoring her!  We tried to explain to her that sometimes parents have chores to do and kids have to play by themselves (we really do play with her a good chunk of the time - and maybe that's the problem!).

It's sometimes hard to know what to do in these kind of situations.  It's very rare that I get frustrated or impatient, but I guess it was just one of those days.



School Uniforms

Today's outfit was her white short sleeve blouse, light grey sweater vest, and navy slacks (cuffed at the bottom).  We'll see if her teacher comments on the sweater vest :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MOM AND DAD!!!

Today is my mom & dad's 35th wedding anniversary.  Congratulations!  I hope you guys had a nice trip yesterday and a wonderful dinner tonight!

Farm Tour

Saturday was the annual Whatcom County Farm Tour.  There are about 15 different farms that participate and you just choose the ones you want to visit.  They give tours, FOOD SAMPLES (my fav!!!  don't plan on eating lunch because there is so much free food!), and have fun activities for kids.  If you live in or near Bellingham I would definitely recommend this event.  It was probably one of the funnest things we've done this summer.  We had four stops planned, but only made it to three (foregoing the winery) because we were all so hot and exhausted... but in a good way.

Farm 1:  Bellewood Acres

Bellewood Acres is an apple farm.  They had THE BEST samples of sparkling apple cider, french blue cheese on apples, caramel apple dip, hand roasted peanut butter on apples, apple spice donuts (Gallie's absolute fav. of the day!), and a tasting of their different variety of apples.  They had a tour of the farm on an apple bin train - Gallie really loved this!  Can't wait for the honeycrisp apples that will be ready soon!  Parents can actually bring their kids here anytime and they give you a golf cart to drive around on a self guided tour and you can also do some u-picking :)  They also have a pumpkin patch in the fall.

Grandpa Mike joined us for the day :)  Don't they make a cute couple sitting in that little apple bin!!!  (haha)

Farm 2:  Edelweiss Dairy

The dairy was a lot of fun too - Gallie now says her favorite animals are cows :)  Edelweiss is part of the Organic Valley Coop, so they had free Organic Valley milk and cheese samples - really good milk!  Gallie also got a coloring book, stickers, a magnet, a tattoo, and a milk coupon for me!

Farm 3:  Boxx Berry Farm

Boxx Berry Farm focuses on berries, but they also grow about everything else.  Here they had free local ice cream sundays topped with their strawberries and fresh roasted corn on the cob.  I could have ate about 10 of them - they were soooooo good!  They also had a tractor trailer ride out to a park area where they had activities for the kids, including a little train ride.  Gallie thought it was pretty cool :)

After we got home the guys decided to go play a round of golf, so us girls had dinner (with Libby and Lily!) and relaxed the rest of the evening.  What a great day!!!

P.S.

I forgot to mention that today is my last Friday I ever have to work!!!!  Ever!!!  Or at least for the next two years...

So happy to be able to spend an entire day with Gallie + a morning for chores and errands + picking Gallie up from school for another 1/2 day!  Although I have to admit I will miss the full paycheck... but the trade off will be well worth it!

School Uniforms

Basically, the preschool uniform consists of a white polo or blouse, navy trousers or skorts, navy or white socks or tights, and a navy cardigan.  Those items can look cute... but also a little boring from day to day.  I have a feeling we're going to be called by the uniform police from time to time :)

On Wednesday Gallie wore her navy jumper, which her teacher said was ok.  Today she wore her white short sleeve blouse, navy skinny pants with lace at the bottom, and a grey wrap around sweater.  We figured we could get around the grey sweater today because it's hot out and she'll just keep it on her coat hook :)  I think she looks so cute!  I'm going to post a couple more of her uniform outfits in the next few weeks just as ideas for anyone else in this situation.

Not to brag, but I am pretty decent at braiding hair.  This is one we call the "crown" braid.  Although lately Gallie only wants to wear her hair down, so it led to a little argument this morning :)

First day of school!

Today was Gallie's first day of 4 year old preschool.  She was very excited to go and excited to be there, but did cry a little when I left :(  Caleb picked her up and said she did great!  Her teacher said she only cried for a few minutes and then had a really fun day.  She even had the calendar job on her first day!  I'm very proud of her for doing so well today!!!

She looked very cute in her uniform!  She goes to a catholic school and they just started having the preschoolers wear uniforms as well.
